After a visit to see uncle Charles and Auntie Susan, Addy has renamed her doggie after their cat “Cool Guy”. A silly video from the phone. Since most of our photos these days are taken with our phones, we’ve set up a Posterous account so we can update our blog on the go. Here goes…
Completed the marathon! Check that off the bucket list. Overall the race went really well. No big surprises but I will say that the last 2 miles were awful. Felt like complete dog doo and just wanted it to be over. Kept waiting for that “Runners High” to kick in and well… it never did. My goal was actually 3:42 which I thought I was on target for. My average pace for the whole race was 8:23/mile which would have placed me around 3:39 or so. I was really just focused on pace and not time. When I crossed the finish line I saw my time of 3:43 and was a little confused (and bummed). Turns out I ran an extra .37m bobbing and weaving around people. According to my Garmin GPS watch I ran 26.57 miles in the 3:43. Note – Marathon courses are measured from the shortest route possible, so unless you take the inside turn on every corner you’ll likely run more than the 26.2. Now I know. Thank you to everyone who supported me in this effort! Special thanks (of course) to Adrianne and Addy for putting up with all my early morning and weekend runs. Also, a very special thank you to Patrick for all the advice and tips along the way. Lastly, thank you to Auntie Susan and Uncle Charles for hosting us in their house the night before the race. Not sure if I’ll run another one just yet. Time to focus on fun things like kiteboarding. Just completed my 100th run in this silly marathon training program. Sunday was my last long run before race day. Now it’s time to taper and get ready for the full 26.2 mile event. 3 weeks to go. Stats so far: 514 total miles I’ve been using dailymile.com to log all of my training runs. Here are some interesting stats:
I have 70 days and 289 miles remaining in my training program before RACE DAY – July 25th. So far it’s gone really well. I’m actually enjoying having a “schedule” and knowing exactly what each days workout consists of. That said, one of the most difficult aspects of my training has been where to run. I try to find new interesting loops for the prescribed distance of the day but end up running the same roads or trails. On the longer runs, I use a combination of Google Maps and Trailrunner but the process is painful. If anyone knows of a better tool, please let me know.
